DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
