DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
