DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
