DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
