DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
