DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
