DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
