DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
