DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
