Criminal justice clients are those who are in any type of drug rehab program on account of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This can occur for instance if someone is convicted of drunk driving or DWI, and for any other kind of drug related crime which has led the court to think that the individual has any kind of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everybody has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug treatment facility as a criminal justice client, but if this option is ordered through the court it's well advised that the individual try everything they can to take full advantage of this opportunity. On many occasions, other penalties and consequences may be completely eliminated or lessened when the individual does well in treatment and finishes the alcohol and drug treatment center that has been ordered for them. First time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients who do experience rehab in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. Ultimately, it saves the court system both money and time when criminal justice clients obtain effective treatment.
