DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
