DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road.
