DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
