DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
