DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road.
