DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
