DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
