DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
