DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
