DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence down the road.
