DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
