DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road.
