DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
