DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
