DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
