DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
