DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence in the future.
