DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
