DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
