DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
