Outpatient treatment gives rehab clients the ability to sustain specific obligations and elements of their lifestyle while getting involved in drug and alcohol rehab services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate amount of rehab, and shouldn't be mistaken for the level of treatment offered in an inpatient or residential rehab program which is much more intensive. Outpatient treatment may be well suited for someone who has a short history of drug abuse for instance, but will almost certainly not be sufficient for an individual whose treatment needs exceed what outpatient treatment is prepared to provide. Individuals dealing with drug abuse often require an extreme environmental change, because many of the things that prompt their drug and alcohol use are strictly environmental. For instance, when someone has been physically or psychologically mistreated and this is triggering their substance abuse, there is no way for any rehab efforts to have success if they go back to such situations on a regular basis. In outpatient treatment, clients can take advantage of group and one-on-one therapy, along with family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs offer services five to seven days per week on either a part-time or full-time schedule for 1 month or longer in some instances.
