DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
