DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future.
