DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
