DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
