DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high later on.
