DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
