DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
