DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
