DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
