DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation centers are either there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while under the influence later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
