DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
