DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high later on.
