DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
