DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
