DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
