DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
