DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
