Criminal justice clients are those who are in any kind of alcohol and drug treatment program because of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This can occur for instance if a person is convicted of driving under the influence or DWI, and for any other kind of drug related crime that has led the judge to believe that the individual has any type of substance abuse issue. Not everybody has the option of taking part in a drug treatment facility as a criminal justice client, but when this approach is ordered by the judge it's strongly advised that the individual try everything they are able to to benefit from this opportunity. On many occasions, other penalties and consequences may be completely eliminated or lessened when the individual does well in rehab and finishes the drug rehabilitation facility that has been ordered for them. First-time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients who experience treatment in place of other penalties have significantly lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to jail time or similar consequences. In the long run, it saves the court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients obtain powerful rehabilitation.
