DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
